Traffic Source Templates

« Back to Glossary Index

Traffic Source Templates in CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One) are preconfigured setups that simplify the process of adding and managing traffic sources in your campaigns.

Since every traffic source (Google Ads, Facebook Ads, PropellerAds, Taboola, etc.) uses its own set of macros and tokens, configuring them manually can be time-consuming and error-prone.

Traffic Source Templates solve this problem by providing ready-to-use configurations that match the specific requirements of each platform.

Why They Matter

Each traffic source has its own way of passing data such as campaign ID, ad ID, placement, keyword, cost, and more.

For example, one source may use {zoneid} to identify a placement, while another uses {publisher}.

If you manually enter the wrong token, CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One) won’t capture data correctly, which can lead to incomplete reports and flawed optimization. Templates eliminate this guesswork.

How It Works

  1. Choose Traffic Source: In CPV Lab and CPV One, when creating a campaign, you select the traffic source from a dropdown menu.
  2. Apply Template: CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One) automatically loads the correct tokens and URL structure for that source.
  3. Generate Campaign URL: The system creates a campaign link with the appropriate macros already included.
  4. Track Data: When users click your ads, CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One) captures the correct values for placements, keywords, or costs, because the tokens match the traffic source’s requirements.

Example

Suppose you run a campaign on PropellerAds.

Without a template, you’d need to manually research and enter the macros for placement ID ({zoneid}), ad creative ({creativeid}), and cost ({cost}).

Using CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One)’s PropellerAds template, these macros are preloaded.

Your campaign URL might look like this:

https://yourdomain.com/click.php?campid=101&zoneid={zoneid}&creative={creativeid}&cost={cost}

Now, when clicks come in, CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One) automatically logs placement IDs, creative IDs, and costs without extra work.

Benefits

  • Accuracy: Tokens always match the traffic source’s actual parameters.
  • Time Savings: No need to manually configure tokens or postback URLs.
  • Standardization: Keeps campaigns consistent, especially when working with multiple networks.
  • Scalability: Easier to manage dozens of traffic sources with templates in place.

Updating Templates

Traffic sources occasionally change their macro structures.

CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One) regularly updates templates, and you can also create or edit your own custom templates.

This ensures that even smaller or less-known sources can be integrated properly.

Best Practices

  • Always select the correct traffic source template before launching a campaign.
  • Test campaign URLs to confirm tokens are being replaced with real values.
  • For unsupported networks, create a custom template to save time on future campaigns.

In summary, Traffic Source Templates in CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One) streamline campaign setup, prevent token mismatches, and ensure that all data from your ads is captured accurately for reporting and optimization.
