Postback / Postback Tracking

« Back to Glossary Index

Postback Tracking in  CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One) is a server-to-server (S2S) communication method that records conversions without relying on browser cookies or pixels. Instead, the affiliate network or advertiser sends conversion data directly to CPV tracker’s postback URL, including the unique Click ID that identifies the user session. This is the most accurate and reliable form of conversion tracking available.

Why Postback Tracking Matters

  • Accuracy: Works even if users block cookies, switch devices, or clear browser data.
  • Reliability: Eliminates dependency on JavaScript or pixel firing.
  • Industry Standard: Most affiliate networks support S2S postback integration.
  • Scalability: Handles very high traffic volumes with minimal performance issues.

How It Works in CPV Tracker

  1. Click Generated: User clicks an ad.  CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One) assigns a unique Click ID (e.g., cid=abc123).
  2. Click ID Passed: The Click ID is appended to the affiliate tracking link that redirects to the offer.
  3. Conversion Happens: The affiliate network records the conversion.
  4. Postback Fired: The network sends a server-to-server request to CPV tracker’s postback URL with the Click ID.
  5. Conversion Logged: CPV tracker matches the Click ID and attributes the conversion to the correct campaign.

Example of Postback URL

https://yourdomain.com/track/conversion.php?cid=REPLACE&amount=OPTIONAL

When the network fires the postback, REPLACE is substituted with the actual Click ID.

Benefits

  • 100% Reliable Attribution: Works across browsers and devices.
  • Supports Payout Tracking: Networks can pass dynamic payout values.
  • Low Latency: No dependence on page loading or pixel rendering.
  • Required for Some Traffic Sources: Many DSPs and large networks only accept S2S conversions.

Best Practices

  • Always test postback integrations before launching campaigns.
  • Ensure tokens are mapped correctly between CPV tracker and the affiliate network.
  • Use dynamic payout tokens when available to record exact revenue.
  • Monitor logs regularly to confirm postbacks are firing consistently.

In summary, Postback Tracking is the gold standard for conversion tracking in  CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One). It ensures maximum accuracy, reliability, and compatibility with modern traffic sources.
