Backup And Restore of Campaign Data

« Back to Glossary Index

Backup And Restore of Campaign Data in CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One)   refers to the process of creating secure copies of your tracking database and configuration files and restoring them when needed.

Since CPV Lab is a self-hosted platform, you are responsible for data integrity and protection. In the cloud-hosted platform, CPV One backups ensure that in the event of server issues, database corruption, or accidental deletion, your campaigns and reports remain safe.

Why Backups Are Critical

  • Data Security: Campaign data includes clicks, conversions, costs, and revenue. Losing this would mean losing optimization insights and financial records.
  • Continuity: If a server crash occurs, a recent backup allows you to restore campaigns with minimal downtime.
  • Compliance: Some businesses must maintain historical ad performance data for audits.
  • Experimentation: Backups allow you to test upgrades or configuration changes without risking live data.

What Gets Backed Up

  1. Database: Contains all campaign data—click logs, conversions, token values, costs, revenues, and user settings.
  2. Configuration Files: Includes campaign settings, redirect profiles, traffic source templates, and affiliate network templates.
  3. Custom Scripts: Any added landing page scripts, postback URLs, or API integrations.

Backup Methods

  • Manual Backups: Export the database manually from CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One)   or your hosting control panel (e.g., cPanel, phpMyAdmin).
  • Automated Backups: Schedule daily or weekly backups via server cron jobs.
  • Remote Storage: Store backups on cloud services (AWS S3, Google Drive) to prevent data loss if the server fails.

Restoring Data

When restoring a backup, you import the saved database into your CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One)  server and reapply configuration files. This restores campaigns, logs, and settings to the state they were in at the time of backup.

Example

Imagine you are running 20 live campaigns, and the server hosting CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One)  suffers a hardware failure. Without a backup, you lose all historical click and conversion data, making optimization impossible. With a daily automated backup, you can restore data from the previous day and continue running campaigns with minimal loss.

Best Practices

  • Schedule daily backups if running high-volume campaigns.
  • Store at least one backup offsite (e.g., cloud storage).
  • Regularly test restoring backups to ensure files aren’t corrupted.
  • Create an additional backup before major upgrades or configuration changes.

In summary, Backup And Restore of Campaign Data in CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One)   ensures business continuity and protects your most valuable asset—data. A reliable backup strategy is not optional but a core part of campaign management.
