Click ID

« Back to Glossary Index

A Click ID is a unique identifier generated by CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One) for every click on a campaign URL. It is essential for accurate conversion attribution because it connects the initial click to the final conversion.

Here’s how it works:

  1. A user clicks a campaign link, and CPV tracker generates a Click ID.
  2. This Click ID is passed along in the Offer URL to the affiliate network.
  3. When a conversion occurs, the network’s server sends a postback to CPV tracker containing the Click ID.
  4. CPV tracker matches the conversion to the original click and updates your reports.
  5. The conversion can be sent then to the ad network (traffic source) and assigned to the right visitor id.

Click IDs make it possible to attribute conversions down to the ad, keyword, or placement level. Without them, you would only see aggregated data.

In reporting, Click IDs allow CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One) to provide detailed insights across tokens, landing pages, offers, and traffic sources.

Because they are unique and session-specific, Click IDs eliminate attribution errors caused by duplicate cookies or shared devices.

In summary, Click IDs are the backbone of tracking in CPV tracker (CPV Lab or CPV One). They ensure that every conversion is accurately matched to its source.
